The Neighbors, our friendly sibling friends consisting of Adam Kaiser (who wins awards based on how attractive he is) and Rachel Kaiser (who toured singing backup for the Brandon Flowers), have recorded and released a breathtaking new single to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy. All proceeds from the song go to charity relief. Here is a link to the song on iTunes, and here is the video for it:

The Neighbors, one of the more well known bands in Utah, have been making big strides in the music scene. On May 14th they came to Rexburg, ID to play at Sammy’s Cafe for a secret show. There they announced that they will be moving to California to try and land a record deal.
However, for now only Adam will be moving there. His sister (and other band member) Rachel will continue on touring with Brandon Flowers of The Killers singing back-up vocals. Rachel was approached after performing at The Velour in Provo by Brandon Flowers’ brother (who is also his manager) to sing back-up vocals for his tour. The Neighbors have appeared a lot here on linescratchers for a band that only is just now releasing its first record. First Arthur interviewed them, then we reported that Rachel Kaiser was singing backups for Brandon Flowers, then they recorded a barefoot and spectacled live video, then Adam Kaiser was selected as the Utah Bachelor of the Year by Cosmopolitan magazine. They can now add “Release music” to their band resume.
Is the very concept of a record review outdated? In the time it takes you to read this review, you could download this and start listening to it yourself. Since taste is subjective, why would gathering opinions of a record be any better than just deciding for yourself? Do you need another person saying that the record sounds like if Band A and Person B did X at Location Y in time period Z? How about the quick and dirty “The good, the bad, and the ugly” routine? How about a letter grade, some stars, thumbs up/thumbs down? The personal anecdote that is primarily for name-dropping self-aggrandizing? The absolute worst is the barely-rewritten press release in which it is obvious that the author never listened to the record. So The Neighbors can’t stay out of the news lately. Rachel Kaiser will be singing for Brandon Flowers till early next year, and the other half of this brother-sister duo, Adam Kaiser, was just voted Utah Bachelor of the Year by Cosmopolitan magazine.
You have until October 10th to vote for Adam for Bachelor of the Year by clicking that link, but be forewarned, it’s full of topless, good-looking men. I just got a message from Adam Kaiser, who said that The Neighbors have just shot their first music video. This one’s a live performance of their song “I Wanna Know” and it’s a ton of fun. Directed by Brent Geisler, shot and cut by Alan Lucchetti, produced by Marcie Gibboney & Kelly King. I really want to see these guys live one day.
Not too long ago, we here at Linescratchers welcomed a tight brother-sister duo into the fold: The Neighbors. Adam and Rachel Kaiser are well-known for their great live shows and fun and accessible alternative pop. But fans of the band might have recently been surprised to see Rachel Kaiser, keyboardist, songwriter, and singer, on the Jay Leno show singing backup for Brandon Flowers. She will be singing for him at live shows until January. Here is their Jay Leno performance:

We’ve only seen the beginning of this band, mark my words. With jumping, powerful melodies, strong beats, and a invigoratingly tight blend of vocals, The Neighbors proves conclusively that brother-sister songwriting duos aren’t all incredibly lame. Adam and Rachel Kaiser, both singers and both songwriters in Provo, UT, have been working on their first album, and the singles they’ve released give us enough reason to be impatient for more. Music critics nowadays generally lament that there’s nothing new under the sun, but The Neighbors seems to like pushing that envelope, if not by complete iconoclasm, then through eclectic and courageous synthesis. Nothing is held back, giving us all hope that there is more to say yet in Western pop music. The Neighbors graciously accepted some interview questions so we could get to know them a little better.
